hellboy - what might have been
Now, as you can tell by the post below this - I really am excited about the Hellboy game. I am optimistic about a company like Konami handling it (rather than, say Midway or Atari). I'm even ok with it adhering more to the style of the live action movie - which I think was decent enough. But, after seeing THIS, I'm reminded of what might have been. After seeing what a game like Okami can do to transfer 2D imagery into a 3D space, you just have to wonder how much cooler this might have been. Maddeningly, Mignola himself seems to be the one intent on keeping any Hellboy project from looking too much like the comic. For example, the animated Hellboy. What's with the quasi-Bratz/modern Disney style??? Gross! Worst is that Mignola was involved with the project and approved this! He specifically told the director that the style had to be different than that of the comic. I mean, it's his creation to do with as he pleases - but why willingly rob it of it's soul at every available opportunity? I just don't get it.
